A new year means new travel plans! I've been trying to put together a few trips for the upcoming year with family, friends, and Michael. We went big last year (I mean... Scotland!) so we're going to turn it down a little this year, save some money, and stick to this side of the pond. But you know what that means - next year we're going big! Right now, only one of our hopeful endeavors is absolutely happening, but I'm going to do my best to follow through on all of them.
One | Montreal, Quebec
Montreal recently came up on my radar in a conversation with a coworker. He had been jetsetting with his wife all throughout 2016 and mentioned that Montreal was a great place to visit for a long weekend. Since it's just a quick & inexpensive flight away, I began to research this new, intrigue-inducing city. What I found was exactly a destination I would love. It is said that Montreal feels like visiting a little piece of Europe right in Canada, with French influences like architecture, language, and food. Michael & I want to go sometime in April but haven't set a date yet. This is the one destination I absolutely have to visit this year.
Two | St. Louis, Missouri
This destination is the one trip that's set in stone. I've yet to visit Missouri and I can't wait! Michael is going to be a groomsman in his college roommate's wedding in St. Louis and since he'll be busy all weekend with wedding duties, I'm going to explore the city. The wedding is on Memorial Day weekend so we get a little bit more time in town. I'm pretty excited to be traveling domestically some in 2017!
Three | Caribbean cruise
This trip is in the beginning stages of planning. My family hasn't taken a vacation that we've all been able to do in several years, so my mom & I decided that a cruise vaca would be perfect for our crew. We hope to go sometime in June when we're all available to get off work or aren't in class. I've been on one cruise & Michael's been on two, but the rest of my immediate family has never cruised. Because of this, we'll probably start out on a shorter, five or six-day trip. I've found a couple options that seem fun in the Eastern Caribbean, so hopefully I can get the rest of the family on board!
Four | New England
One of my childhood best friends, Anna, & I were chatting one day and got on the topic of traveling through New England in the fall. Of course we both thought it would be an awesome idea, the travel-lovers that we are. She recently got back from Italy and since then she's been dying for another trip; I'm in the same boat, having recently returned from Scotland. We thought New England would be casual and also affordable in comparison to our out-of-country trips. We haven't nailed anything down, but both of us seem pretty serious about making it happen so hopefully it does!
So far, these are the trips on my radar for 2017 but I hope to factor in a few more that are close to home like Nashville, Columbus, or some small, quaint towns nearby. What are some destinations you plan on visiting this year? I'd love some ideas!
