2016 was so, so good to me. I started a new job in a fantastic new city, officially moved away from home and have my very own place (still blows my mind I'm a real grown up!), started Mad's Muses, and have learned so much about myself. Needless to say, I'm just as excited for 2017 as I was 2016.
And while 2016 was great, there have, at times, been lows and tough moments. While I won't delve into these, the tough times have taught me much more than the good times ever have. I've come to realize that the most important thing in life is family. Nothing can ever replace those who share your name. I've learned that some friends come and go, but the constant ones will be there forever. And those are equally as irreplaceable. I've learned that, while work is essential and it's great to give one hundred percent at your job, the satisfaction you receive at work can't replace the joy that you receive from loved ones in your life. I've learned that choosing to work to live instead of live to work is key to my happiness; balance is so important. I've realized that writing is something that I love to do when I'm writing for myself, in my own style, instead of writing what I perceive to be what others want to hear. I've learned that while it's nice to have nice things, they are exactly that: things. True satisfaction comes from experiences, loved ones, and new revelations. I've learned that this outlet for me to share my life has grown to be something that I am so proud of, and I can't wait to continue to invest in it in the coming year.
Going into 2017, I am hopeful that I will implement the things I've learned in 2016 into my lifestyle by spending more time with family & friends, writing about things I feel passionate towards, spending time outside of work doing things I love, and remembering that true satisfaction comes from what you make of life.
I hope that through this creative outlet for me, you'll be able to learn some new things too, whether that's from personal reflection or from something I've written. I hope that your 2016 was all that you'd wanted, and I hope that 2017 is our best year yet.
