I may be overkilling it with tips on traveling Barcelona, but with good reason! I spent a month in the city studying Spanish language & culture, exploring hidden nooks, eating churros con chocolate, and touring local landmarks. I recently spoke with a colleague regarding a trip she is taking this summer, which includes several days in Barcelona, and I realized while I had written several pieces on my favorite places in the city, I hadn’t taken the time to write a cumulative piece compiling my top sites. This is much easier to look over than searching for these destinations one by one!
Just your cliché tourist here! I’m typically never one to condone being a tourist; every fiber in my being hates that term. I’m always preaching to be absorbed into your host culture, doing as the locals do, and acting as a temporary citizen of your destination. I ate my words, though, when I went to Seattle. So what exactly did we do during our time in the Pacific Northwest? We were tourists.
Flying is an essential part of most travel but it can be frustrating at times. Preparation can make all the difference! There are a few tricks that I always do prior to and during a flight, especially long distances when I know I'll be in an airport for a significant amount of time, that make my flights much improved. Hopefully by reading this, you'll be able to make your next flight a success!
The Holocaust is a time in world history that everyone looks upon with shock & disbelief. How could something like this happen in Western culture during the twentieth century? How could this happen at any time or any place? The actions of the Holocaust are something that I have personally researched for a good portion of my academic career by reading memoirs & documents, taking specified history courses during my time in college, and viewing documentaries, but I didn’t fully understand it or its ramifications until experiencing a former concentration camp first-hand.
If you follow along with Mad's Muses, you’ve probably seen my post on The Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg, Austria. But what you haven’t read are all of the other awesome things that call Salzburg home. My ultimate favorite place to visit in the city is Festung Hohensalzburg, or the “high Salzburg castle”. The castle sits high on a hill and overlooks the streets, river, & buildings that make up the stunning city of Salzburg.
The most common question I get as a traveler is along the lines of money. How do I have the funds for traveling? It’s no joke that travel can be expensive, but if you do it the right way, you can afford to go anywhere.
Cairns is medium-sized city located in tropical North Queensland, Australia, and is home to adrenaline-pumping activities & a laid back atmosphere. It is very well-known as a main entry point to the Great Barrier Reef and has many opportunities to explore the reef while you visit. Its tropical climate doesn’t hurt either. ;)
