I've never been one to consider myself a guru at anything beauty related. I only started wearing foundation my during my last year of college and dipped my toes into the area of skincare this year (a little bizarre, right?!). I've also never really been that fond of makeup - I'd rather go without it than with any day of the week. It just wasn't too high on my priority list and I'd stuck with my same makeup routine for years. Only recently have I been able to discover a routine that actually works. And y'all, I'm excited about it!
I've dabbled in a little bit of everything at the beauty counter, from the cheap stuff to the expensive goodies. In my mind, I always thought that the more expensive the foundation, the better it would be for my skin. Man, was I mistaken. I mentioned a few posts back that I follow Molly of The Fashion Veggie pretty religiously and she talks all things vegan on her blog. I knew when I found out that my so-so makeup brand that I had used for years still tested on animals that it was time to find a new go-to.
Per Molly's recommendation, I began using ELF products (Really? Yep!). Turns out, they're pretty freaking awesome. I started small by replacing my Clinique makeup primer with ELF anti-blemish primer. I was sold. It's affordable and works like a charm. My next transition was powder. I found that I really liked it, too. By this point, I'm pretty interested in their products so I just go on an ELF super haul that I talked about in this post. I bought foundation (which is a big deal for me, guys! I'm normally super bougey about foundation), eye shadow, bronzer, high-lighter, blush, brushes - the works. After using it all for a few weeks, I haven't ever loved my makeup routine more. It lasts all day, feels fresh on my skin, and makes me feel confident. What more could I want?
You all know that new skincare routine that I posted about a few weeks back? Yep, that's changed, too. I now use A+ Notations (a local brand run by a friend of my mom and her daughter) for makeup remover and face wash. They use organic products and make them all in their home. It's amazing to know what's in your products and to shop local. I also forwent my Clinique moisturizers for a simpler + cruelty-free product. I switched to Neutrogena Naturals Brightening Daily Moisturizer and my skin feels so much better. After using it for only a few days, I can tell a difference in my skin tone and texture which is huge for me.
Has anyone else tweaked their makeup/beauty routine recently? What's your favorite cruelty-free facial cleanser? I'd love to hear about your newest discoveries!
